This is such an adorable book and so relatable in multilingual homes. Nani doesn’t speak English, only Urdu. and Mirha only speaks English. Mirha and Nani quietly walk to the school bus drop off and pick up. Mirha misses her mother’s ‘I love Yous.’ But does her Nani also love Mirha even though she has never said it to her?
I love this tender story. It is a relatable experience across many cultures that love language can look different for everyone. I love that the representation of English and Urdu is done with so much love and care throughout the book. Urdu phrases and words are translated. I appreciate the sentences with words from both languages as is common in my household with my kids. You can find this book at your local library!
