Review:
With the limited Muslim graphic novel options for middlegraders, I managed to get my hands on a copy of this book. This story is based on a true story of Salam School girls basketball team under a new coach. The all-hijabi team got national coverage about being Muslim and playing basketball. The story is fast paced and easy to read. I love the fact that this book about an Islamic school basketball team is published traditionally and is available in library bookshelves throughout North America. However, I wish due diligence was done in one of the few scenes where Islam is present, the family of praying together is shown amiss. The dad is leading the prayer, mom, daughter and 2 sons are illustrated praying behind dad all together in the same line (see pic). Other than this, the book is clean and has a great message to offer the readers.
