Huda is planning everything out in order to have a successful year and in order to apply to the colleges on her list. However, when her parents make an unexpected announcement about getting divorced, it takes a toll on her with all the new questions that come with this change.
Review:
This is the 3rd book in this series and just like the first 2, this brings so much authenticity and so much heart. The story on this one focuses on mental health, being able to identify emotional struggles, talking things through and seeking help. Honestly, this graphic novel series bring such refreshing POV for the Muslim readers, me included. Huda’s character is able to see through this change in her family. Even her siblings are shown to deal with this news differently. Although this book series is rated as YA, my kids, young kids have enjoyed every single one of them. I appreciate that the reason for the divorce is not discussed but rather it focuses on Huda, as a teenager with so much already going on, and how she is able to cope and navigate through it. I love Huda’s mom and her tough, straight-to-the-point character where she is also able to compassionate when is needed. I am already thinking about if and when her next book will be coming!
