Review:
This book was originally published in Australia titled ‘The Month that Makes the Year. For us in North America it seems to be difficult to access titles published in Australia (as well as costly to ship).  I am thrilled that this year, this book is also published in North America! This copy has been gifted to me by the Palestinian owned indie publishing house, Interlink Books. Thus we now have easy access on this side of the pond.

This book is beautifully illustrated and textually worded. The mixed race family, the gentle and whimsical tone of the story is so heartwarming. The relatability of Muslim kids similar ages to Deenie is so accurately displayed through the story. She finds it difficult to fast initially, but as days pass, and she finds beauty in the things around her to pass her time, her fasting days get easier.

Get a copy for your kids this Ramadan. It would be a beautiful addition to any bookshelf, Muslim or not.
