Review:
When I was offered this book for review, I was intruiged to see what it was about since it was set in Kosovo, my homeland. The situation of stray dogs in Kosovo after the war has been a problematic and controversial one. In Kosovo, dogs were mainly used to protect the farm animals and kept in a doghouse. But things are changing now.
The book is written and narrated in the perspective of Lyri, the puppy as he grows up. The reader follows his travels between cities, villages and mounds of waste as a free dog in a constant state of searching for food.
The book highlights the hardships of stray dogs living among bussling cities and quiet villages. It explores the topic of pollution and the work of the animal rights organization who are working to keep the stray dog population under control.
The book and story is not Islamic but it is set in a Muslim majority country. The illustrations have made me personally nostalgic to see familiar landmarks and masajid. I appreciate the visually detailed work on every page.
