Review:
I received this book as parto of Muslim Book Awards 2023. Re-reading it takes me back to my own experience of escaping uncertainties.

The book is written and narrated by a nameless young boy who is reflecting on the journey his mother has taken him on as he compares it to the life he used to know. He is yearning to just be back home instead of being in a crowded boat or walking for miles, hiding in plain sight.

I love the illustrations of this book. They are what really what set the tone of this book and the mood of this difficult story.

The characters in the book are not identified to be from any particular country and neither is their destination specified. Characters are muslim, mother wears the hijab and they stop for fajr prayer while on their journey.
