Summary:
Malik’s older brother, Badr, has autism and that means that Malik is always making compromises. On this day, Malik has a rough day and is impatient with his words.

Review:
Sibling rivalry is a topic all too common in all households. However, this story is about navigating tough days with a sibling who has autism, in a Muslim voice and POV.

The book is narrated by Malik, the younger brother and his perception of simple daily tasks made difficult since he has to make compromises. I really like that even though he says hurtful words out loud, he has a clear conscious and has instant regret in his thought process which makes it clear to the young Muslim readers.

I love the role of the mother in this book. Even though she comforts Malik in those hard moments, Malik recognizes that his mother has hard days as well.

Finding joy in unexpected moments is what makes this family prevail over the tough days.

There are important discussion questions in the end. There is a link provided to look up more information about autism, which is important. In addition to that, I do wish that there was a short paragraph explaining what autism is and what inspired the author to write this story.

This is an important story to have in Muslim spaces.
