Summary:
Khadija has to attend a science fair on the day of Eid. It is her dream to be a scientist when she grows up, but she notices that the scientists at the science fair do not look like her mother, they don’t wear hijab.
Review:
Khadija is a cute character with alot of abition. But she can’t get over the fact that there was no hijabi scientists. She worries, that when she grows up, she can’t be a scientist with her hijab.
I LOVE stories about girls in STEM, but this one…a Muslim girl in Stem is so wholesome.
The story is set on the day of Eid but the center of the story is science. Makes her Muslim identity a natural part of her. Which is so relatable to Muslim families in the west because many may have to commit or attend other events that may fall on the day of Eid and they make it work.
We need more stories like this, Muslim girls in STEM where their Muslim identity is not part of the crisis but it is there.
This would make a wonderful Eid gift to Muslim girls this season.
