I purchased this book last year, however it arrived at the end of Ramadan so I have been saving it on my shelf to have it reviewed this year.
This book is beautifully illustrated and textually worded. The mixed race family, the gentle and whimsical tone of the story is so heartwarming. The relatability of Muslim kids similar ages to Deenie is so accurately displayed through the story. She finds it difficult to fast initially, but as days pass, and she finds beauty in the things around her to pass her time, her fasting days get easier.
This book is published in Australia but if you get the chance to get your copy here in North America, it woulf be a beautiful addition to any bookshelf, Muslim or not.
