Review:
This book aims to normalize madrassah for Muslim kids. They follow along with the protagonists as they venture on about getting ready and attending class where they learn Arabic, Surahs and daily duas. The illustrated details on each every page is SO stunning. An ideal madrassah classroom set up with posters and duas on the walls, cubbies with nametags and more. Each detail can be used as an opportunity to chat about what the child is seeing and noticing in each page. However, I find the story to be, yet again, generic in nature. Nothing happens except that the siblings get dressed, eat breakfast, go to class with others, learn, have a snack and go home. Books like this tend to be an okay read once or twice but I don’t know that it would excite the kids to read repeatedly. Sometimes the text rhymed and sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes some words were capitalized mid-sentence. Overall, I felt like there was a lot of ‘telling’ in this book rather than ‘showing.’ The book serves has a great concept, however the execution is quite generic.
