Review:

SubhanAllah, Muslims are so diverse and I love books that I come across that showcase a culture that is neglected in Muslim kids literature. This book is the first I have read that explicitly represents the Algerian culture. It introduces the reader to a few gems from the Algerian culture and their wedding traditions: henna party, zaghreet, traditional dishes, traditional clothing, all through a story that displays an adorable sisterly love. I really appreciate the detailed illustrations of the different types of Algerian dresses and their headwear. I wasn’t particularly fond of the facial expressions on the characters in the illustrations. It is something about the eyes, but that is a personal take. As we all know, books serve as a mirror and/or window for the readers. It is important for our kids to read about the variety of cultures that make up our Muslim ummah. This book is a good pick for your diverse shelves.
